Home Depot Kids Workshop January 4th *register now

On Saturday, January 4th from 9am-12pm kids can make a FREE Desk Calendar at the Home Depot Kids Workshop!

-Make a fun Desk Calendar.

-FREE hands-on workshops; designed for children ages 5 - 12.

-Offered the 1st Saturday of every month at all The Home Depot stores between 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. ----Please do not arrive before 9:00 a.m.

-Workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills, tool safety and instill a sense of pride and accomplishment.

-All kids get to keep their craft, receive a FREE certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin.

-One workshop kit, apron and pin per child, while supplies last.

-Children must be present at the store to participate in the workshop and receive the kit, apron and pin.

-Kids Workshop activities are scheduled on a first come/first served basis.

Days Of '47 Frontier Camps and Rodeo - Fun For The Whole Family

Friday night we were invited to go and look around the Frontier Camps down at the Energy Arena Solutions and attend the Days Of 47 Rodeo.  We had so much fun!!  My sister is in town so we took 10 of down there including my 87 year old Grandma.  Everyone loved it.

We decided to go around 5:30 and the first stop were the free pony rides.  The kids had huge smiling faces.  We watched some cowboys play the guitar and they even let the kids play with them.  My Grandma loved visiting with the Native American Indians and admiring the beautiful jewelry.  (She has always been a huge fan.)  We couldn't help but, stop at the music.  Grandma loved clapping along and participating while the kids and my sister went on a Free wagon ride around 2 blocks.

trek. It took them 90 days to complete it.  I couldn't imagine walking across the plains for 90 days.  We also loved looking at the trading booths.  They had a lot of very affordable items.

Then we were off to the Days of '47 Rodeo.  It was the first time for kids to attend a Rodeo and I hadn't been to one in a long time.  They enjoyed it!  My 4 and  year old were well behaved.  My son asked lots of questions I couldn't answer.  Thankfully, someone behind us helped
me out with the answers.

If you are looking to start a new tradition head out to the Frontier Camps they run Monday July 22nd - Wednesday the 24th.  It is free entertainment and lots of tradition.  The fun starts around 2:00 p.m. and the last entertainer goes on at 9:00 p.m.

Days of '47 Rodeo FREE Event: NEW Frontier Camps

DAYS OF ’47 RODEO TO FEATURE ALL-NEW FRONTIER CAMP OUTSIDE OF ENERGY SOLUTIONS ARENA
 

Five camps will feature pioneers, mountain men, Native Americans, cowboys and Buffalo Soldiers, live music and local cuisine
 

SALT LAKE CITY (July 8, 2013) — In conjunction with its return to Energy Solutions Arena, the Days of ’47 Rodeo will host the first-ever Frontier Camp. The event will celebrate a variety of western cultures from Utah’s frontier roots with reenactments, demonstrations, music, food and wagon and pony rides.
The Frontier Camp, including musical performances, will be free to attend and opens each afternoon before the Days of ’47 rodeo (July 19, 20 and 22-24) at 2 p.m., with the rodeo beginning at 6:30 p.m. Many local performers, including Saddle Strings, Brenn Hill and Jackson Cash, will be joined by national talents such as Sourdough Slim and Suzy Bogguss. Additionally, a Dutch Oven Cook-off is scheduled for Saturday.
“Frontier Camp will be a great opportunity for Utahns to celebrate our heritage in a fun, family-friendly environment,” Trailboss Tom Whitaker said. “Rodeo fans will love the western atmosphere surrounding the camps. We envision Frontier Camp becoming a memorable Days of ’47 tradition for years to come.”
Each of the five camps will feature a different aspect of Utah’s rich western heritage and frontier legacy with reenactors in period clothing. Visitors can witness a variety of historical demonstrations, including the daily life of pioneer and cavalry families, Native American dancing and cowboy life on the trail.

City Creek Brings Holiday Fun This Year

 I was able to go to City Creek yesterday for a quick tour of the holiday fun they will be having this year.  I was so impressed and it is more then just lights it is a whole experience.  Here is a little of what you can expect to see:

"I have fond memories of the holiday customs my parents established when I was growing up," said Linda Wardell, General Manager of City Creek Center. "In turn, it has been a joy to play a hand in creating the enchanting experiences at City Creek Center that will now become happy holiday traditions for many other families."

Inside Santa's Lantern

Beginning tonight, and every day until Christmas (excluding Sundays), you will be able to visit with Santa in Santa's Lantern and have your picture taken with him. The unique thing about this visit with Santa is that there is NO WAITING IN LINE! Check in to get your place in line, leave your cell phone number, and go shop and enjoy the rest of the holiday festivities (listed below) while you wait. You will receive a text message when it's your turn to visit with Santa. Visit with Santa, and then go to the picture pickup area to get your pictures. The best thing is, it's no all in one small, crowded area! They have spread it out so that you don't have to fight your way through the crowd! Brilliant! Santa will be at City Creek Center November 15 through December 24 for family photos. Santa is available Monday through Saturday 10:00am to 9:00pm. Santa generally breaks* for milk and cookies at 1:00pm-2:00pm and at 5:00pm-6:00pm. *Break schedule subject to change. Special Santa events:

• Signing Santa, Thursday, Nov. 29 – Deaf children can visit with Signing Santa from 2 to 6 p.m.
• Santa Paws, Thursday, Dec. 6 – Santa’s canine friends are welcome to visit and have their photo taken with Santa from 6 to 9 p.m.

Storytellers: Throughout the holiday season, Storytellers will be performing at City Creek Center on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 3 p.m. until closing at the Grand Tree, on the Skybridge and at the Fireplace. This is another of one of my favorite things about the holidays at City Creek.

• Thursdays from 3 to 9 p.m. Nov. 29 through Dec. 20
• Fridays and Saturdays from 3 to 10 p.m. Nov. 16 through Dec. 22
• Monday, Dec. 24, from 1 to 6 p.m.

In Richards Court (by Nordstrom) stands a 30-foot-tall tree that weighs 1,975 pounds and has 12,450 lights wrapped around it, which is enough lights to wrap 50 average-sized trees.

Holiday Fountain Displays

The fountain in Richards Court, Transcend, will complement the holiday décor and feature three new holiday shows: “Carol of the Bells,” “The Nutcracker” and “Let it Snow.” One of these shows will play every hour on the hour throughout the holiday season when the Center is open. A feature fountain show with all three of these songs will play each night at 7 and 9 p.m.

 Storybook Lanterns

Four storybook lanterns featuring four different family-favorite holiday stories are positioned throughout the Center. Stories featured are: “The Nutcracker,” “A Christmas Carol,” “The Twelve Days of Christmas” and “’Twas the Night Before Christmas.” The scenes in the storybook lanterns were crafted using traditional methods like carpentry and sculpture, as well as innovative techniques like rapid prototyping (a zoetrope-like rapid succession of static images that create the illusion of motion). These are DARLING, and one of my favorite things about the holiday season at City Creek this year.

Wreaths

Four 18-foot wreaths hang throughout the Center, each featuring a 6-foot-tall lantern in the middle. Each wreath weighs 1,500 pounds and has 9,500 lights, for 38,000 lights all together. 

Main Street Skybridge Display

When driving to City Creek Center, make sure to drive up or down Main Street, especially at night, to see the beautiful holiday display on the sky bridge. When you are in City Creek Center, walk across the Skybridge and listen to one of the storytellers on Thursday, Friday or Saturday (see schedule above).

I can't wait to take my family to share more memories.  One thing we will be doing every year is seeing the arrival of Santa.  I went last night and loved it.  I will be posting a few pictures later today!
