Annual Thanksgiving Point Festival to Showcase More Than 250,000 Tulips in 100Varieties.  Utah’s Only Tulip Festival Includes Gardening Demonstrations, High School Competition, Live Entertainment, Dutch Days and a Tulip Princess Pageant.

LEHI, Utah, (April 5, 2012) – Spring is in full bloom at the 8th annual Tulip Festival at the Thanksgiving Point Gardens, April 13-28 (closed Sundays). More than a quarter-million tulips in nearly 100 unique varieties and 70 different colors are spread across 55-acres of 15 themed gardens.

“The tulip display is redesigned every year and mixed with thousands of other early spring flowers for families to enjoy,” said Tracy Erdman, director of the Thanksgiving Point Gardens. “Because Mother Nature changes the display daily, you’ll want to keep coming back to enjoy the tulips along with the many activities associated with the festival.”

In addition to the colorful blooms, Thanksgiving Point’s Tulip Festival includes the following activities:

Dutch Days – April 21
The Tulip Festival will once again feature a free cultural celebration of Dutch heritage on April 21 from 10a.m.-5p.m.  Gardens guests can participate in a traditional costume contest, try wooden shoes, make Dutch children’s crafts, sample Dutch treats and watch Extreme Rhythm Cloggers and Idelwild Quartet performances. Sponsored by the Old Dutch Store.

American Daffodil Society Daffodil Show and Contest – April 13-14
The Tulip Festival celebrates all spring flowers. More than 100 different varieties of daffodils will be on display in the Visitor Center to show the spring flower’s versatility beyond yellow and white. Guests are invited to bring a daffodil from their own garden to be judged in the show on April 13 from 8-11 a.m. For an advanced look at the show and more information, visit the American Daffodil Society website at daffodilusa.org.

Tulip Princess Pageant – April 28
Girls ages 1-11 are invited to be a princess at the Thanksgiving Point Tulip Festival’s second annual Tulip Princess Pageant, April 28, at 11 a.m. Grand prizes are awarded in each age category, but every contestant will walk away a winner. Complete rules and entry forms are available at thanksgivingpoint.org.

Outdoor Entertainment – Friday and Saturday evenings
Fridays and Saturdays during the festival, local musicians and dance groups will perform in front of the tulip backdrop at either the Garden patio or Waterfall Amphitheater. Music styles will include local acoustic artists, harpists, and strolling bagpipers. Craft and food vendors, guest authors, and live painters will also interact with guests at the Gardens each weekend.

Gardening Demonstrations and Guided Garden Tours – Daily
Gardening demonstrations by Thanksgiving Point experts are free to Festival guests daily. Topics range from growing and cooking vegetables to weed control and perennial planning.  Guests are also invited to tour the gardens with a guided expert Monday-Friday at noon, and each Saturday at noon and 3 p.m.

Fairchild Challenge – April14
New this year, the Gardens Waterfall Amphitheater will host more than 100 Utah high school students who will showcase their environment-inspired work in the Fairchild Challenge, April 14, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Garden guests can see original performances relating to Utah water conservation, a recycled materials fashion show, and other visual arts bringing awareness to environmental issues. Students will compete for top honors, as well as up to $1,000 for their school’s environmental program.
